Catherine Staveley (2009) |
|
Catherine Staveley is one of a group of artists who come together on an
annual basis to take part in Open Sudios. For more than ten years she
has been opening her studio and gallery to the public for these two
weeks each year. “ As artists, selling through galleries, we rarely
meet the public who buy our paintings and these fourteen days give us
an unparalled opportunity to show our work and receive feedback from
people. There is a myth which seems to have started with Van Gogh, of
the artist working in the attic, indifferent to the world’s perception
of his or her art. This is really no more than a myth; every artist,
however reclusive needs interest from the outside world and without
support and interest in their work will give up and cease to function
as an artist. As humans seem not to exist without art so the artist is
locked in the same symbiotic relationship with the public and the need
to show his or her work. |
